Accuplacer Assessment

As part of Minnesota State policy, PTCC assesses new incoming students’ academic readiness for credit-bearing college curriculum to assure students have the academic content knowledge to have a high likelihood of success in our courses. Students who are admitted to PTCC must demonstrate their academic readiness to enroll in courses that require college-level reading, writing, and/or math skills. Students can demonstrate their academic readiness based on their performance on a variety of assessments.

Students should submit an official copy of any of the following assessment to determine their eligibility to enroll into college-level courses at Pine Technical and Community College to the PTCC Admission office. Scores are valid for 5 years.

  • ACT Reading 21, ACT Math 22
  • SAT Reading 480, SAT College Algebra 530
  • MCA Reading 1047, MCA Math 1158

Accuplacer Assessment will be used if the above scores do not meet the college level benchmarks to demonstrate academic readiness to enroll in college-level courses.

PTCC encourages all students to prepare for the Accuplacer Assessment

The ACCUPLACER web-based study app features practice tests in each test subject. It is accessible from most devices with internet access, and will help you become familiar with the content and format of the ACCUPLACER test questions.

  • “Learn as you go” tests provide you with explanation of the correct or incorrect responses.
  • Sample tests are similar to the real thing, so you’ll know ahead of time what your experience will be like on test day.
  • You can save your work at any time, and come back when it’s convenient for you.
  • You can review your score history to see what you’re already doing well and what skills you should focus on improving.
  • PTCC uses the NEXT GENERATION ACCUPLACER Reading, Arithmetic, QAS and AAF
