Nursing Assistant (3 credits)


Students in the Nursing Assistant Program gain the foundational knowledge and skills for working with patients or long-term care facility clients. It helps students build awareness and comfort for working in the healthcare, assisted living or senior living atmospheres. Skills are performed in a supervised nursing lab and long-term care setting.

Students explore the roles and responsibilities of the nursing assistant and learn residents' and clients' rights, pertinent laws and ethical issues. Concepts covered include:

  • Basic human needs
  • Basic nursing/personal care skills
  • Mental health and social needs
  • Restorative care

Home Health Aide (Standalone Class)


Home Health Aide is an additional 15 hour training intended to prepare students to work as home health aide/homemaker for agencies providing home care. Prerequisite: Must have completed a state-approved 75 hours or more nursing assistant course.

Nursing Assistant Test-Out


The Nursing Assistant Competency Exam is offered to qualified candidates seeking placement on the MN Department of Health Registry, as required for employment in most nursing homes. State and federal laws require that most candidates for testing have completed a MN state-approved Nursing Assistant training program of 75 hours or more. The competency exam includes a written portion and a hands-on demonstration of nursing assistant skills and abilities. Pre-registration and payment are required. NO WALK INS ACCEPTED.

Dates: December 19, 2017, January 26, 2018, February 23, 2018, March 23, 2018, April 20, 2018, May 18, 2018, and June 22, 2018
*Testers must report to Room 250 by 6:50am
*Mandatory Dress code: Scrubs
