Co-Requisite: HEOP 1242 Nurse Assistant Clinical
This course introduces concepts of basic human needs, health/illness continuum, and basic nursing skills. The theory and role of the nursing assistant in a long-term care facility and the home care setting as well as working with various populations will be discussed. Students will demonstrate skills, practice in a supervised laboratory setting, and orient to a clinical setting and the home setting. The philosophy of home care in addition to the differences between long-term care settings and home care settings are discussed. Upon successful completion of this course and Nursing Assistant Clinical, the candidate is eligible to take the Minnesota Competency Evaluation for Nursing Assistants and Home Health Aide. Individuals successfully completing this examination are placed on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
