Principles of Chemistry I

This is the first course in a two-course introduction to chemistry.  This course students will learn the basic concepts of chemistry including:  atomic theory and structure, periodic properties of the elements, chemical bonding, the behavior of gases, liquids, solids and solutions, chemical nomenclature, chemical reactions and equations, and enthalpy changes associated with chemical reactions.  Quantitative laboratory experiments will emphasize observation, the organization of data, data analysis.  This course is intended for students who need to fulfill a course in general chemistry for a variety of majors including liberal arts requirements, nursing, and health science.
