11/23/11 The course examines the relationship between the educator and the childs family. Students will explore strategies to maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with families, involving families in early care and education programs and effectively conducting parent-teacher conferences. Community organizations and networks that support families will be identified. Various classroom strategies will be explored emphasizing culturally and linguistically appropriate anti-bias approaches supporting all children in becoming competent members of a diverse society. Before 11/23/11 Name: Family & Community Relations Students will examine how current societal and community issues impact the development of children and the well-being of families. Cultural diversity and dynamics, bias, violence, and other issues will be explored, along with study of contemporary family structures, roles, and diversity. (Prerequisites: College level reading and writing.) Offered Fall.
